STRATEGIES/TATICS AGAINST ROAD-RAGE (S.T.A.R.R.)

Confrontations on the road have particular aspects that are not present in other self-defence situations. First of all, there are a lot of them. You might literally face this situation a couple of times a day during your commute. According to the Automobile Association of America, Road-Rage incidents in the U.S. have increased 51% in the last 6 years (1999-2005). The same report says that for every reported incident, hundreds, perhaps thousands, of encounters go unreported.

Most individuals- either as drivers, passengers or pedestrians- have at some point been the victim or aggressor in a Road-Rage incident or have indeed witnessed others involved in this crime. Road-Rage is usually born out of frustration to others on the road but almost always leads to incidents of 'tailgating', sounding the horn, hand gestures, swearing and often one or both parties exiting their vehicle.
