Everything you need to know // frequently asked questions

Q: What is the timescale for a seminar?
A: Our regular seminars are designed to stretch over 3-hours. Typically this time has to be condensed to fit around tight timetables and as such most theory-based sessions last approximatley 1 hour. Obviously, the shorter the time the more succinct the information becomes. Our practical sessions can be similarly condensed but the two are best merged so theory can lead into practical applications of what has just been delivered.

Q: How many students can be taught at once?
A: Many of the schools/workplaces we attend offer smaller groups of around 20-30 as this aids in feedback discussions and attention given from the instructor(s). Nevertheless, we regularly hold seminars where 150 students are in attendance in a theatre type setting.

Q: What is the cost of a Self-protection Network seminar?
A: The basic cost for all Self-protection Network corporate or student-based seminars (theorised or practical) is £100.00 per hour. This price is standard and set whether your seminar requires one or more instructors and stays the same regardless of number of attendees. A full day workshop with the Self-protection Network costs £500.00, however, we do regularly run offers for reduced rates. To be added to our mailing list click here.

Q: Where are the workshops held?
A: The Self-protection Network and its instructors prides itself in its ability to be totally flexible and it is most common that an instructor will come in and teach at your school, college or workplace. Most of our seminars within schools and sixth form centres utilise our service as part of their general studies curriculum or life skills programme and the Self-protection Network normally runs workshops on suspended timetable days or during team building events for corporate clients.

Q: How much space is needed?
A: A class room is an ideal space for our theorised sessions as the environment is set just right for the learning experience to take place, as long as adequate seating is in place then no other means are needed. Practical sessions however, do require a little more space for the drill aspect, role-playing and general practice to take place. Sports/assembly halls prove ideal spaces for these activities and similarly a large conference type room is ideal for corporate type seminars.

Q: What equipment is needed?
A: The Self-protection Network will provide all necessary equipment for the seminar to take place, however on some occasions it makes sense to make use of equipment such as matting and or a digital projector as they may already be onsite. These details can be arranged prior to the Self-protection Network instructor(s) coming into your establishment.

Q: What policies are in place for the vetting of your instructor(s)?
A: All Self-protection Network instructors are fully insured and hold their own public liability insurance policy, all instructors must pass an enhanced CRB check before they are allowed to instruct on behalf on the Self-protection Network and this information is fully available on request.
